\"\"Tag 3 der Westminster\/Oxford-Tour war der lang ersehnte Ruhetag, der den Pilgrims Gelegenheit gab, durch die Stadt zu schlendern, Museen zu besuchen und auf dem Platz des Magdalen College Cricket zu sehen. W\u00e4hrend der Nachmittag damit verbracht wurde, Renoir und Rembrandt aufzufrischen, stellte Moritz am Abend sein eigenes zeitgen\u00f6ssisches Meisterwerk vor – den 1. Hop-On-Hop-Off Pub Crawl, der meines Wissens nach immer noch darauf wartet, da\u00df die letzten Crawler aussteigen.<\/p>\r\n

\"\"An Tag 4 der Tour lernten die Pilgrims dank der Bem\u00fchungen des Nawabs und seiner Zweitbesetzung die Kunst der \u00f6rtlichen Taxibestellung, um uns nach Appleton zu bringen, einem h\u00fcbschen kleinen Dorf am Rande von – nun ja, nichts. Moment, da war etwas, wir konnten es riechen, und zwar die \u00f6rtliche Kl\u00e4ranlage, die auf Hochtouren lief.\"\"An diesem Sonntag, als das Dorf Appleton sein erstes internationales T16-Turnier veranstaltete, wurden die Pilgrims endlich mit den k\u00fcrzeren Dingen des Lebens vertraut gemacht – und mit einem Dreier. Unbekanntes Terrain sozusagen, aber es war nur ein Wettbewerb zwischen den Gastgebern aus Appleton, Far From the MCC und einem mehr oder weniger n\u00fcchternen Team von der Insel. F\u00fcr ihr erstes Spiel wurden die Pilgrims gebeten, als Feldspieler anzutreten – eine ausgezeichnete Entscheidung unserer Gastgeber Appleton CC, die wu\u00dften, da\u00df die Erdinger Erfrischungen so schnell nicht k\u00fchler werden w\u00fcrden.\"\"Mit Ausnahme von Keeper Trived durften alle Pilgrims bowlen und teilten die Beute gleichm\u00e4\u00dfig unter sich auf. Skipper Rick kam mit einer Bilanz von 1-0-1-1 zur\u00fcck, die er sich vor der n\u00e4chsten Tour sicher irgendwo unauff\u00e4llig eint\u00e4towieren wird. In k\u00fcrzester Zeit hatte Appleton in den zugewiesenen 16 Overs 115-6 erzielt. Auch die deutsche XL-Playlist des \u00f6rtlichen DJs, die Nenas 99 Luftballons und die Nationalhymne – wenn auch die falsche Strophe – enthielt, sorgte daf\u00fcr, da\u00df alle Spieler zwischen den Overs wach blieben.\"\"Die Pilgrims er\u00f6ffneten den Schlagabtausch mit ihrem unterhaltsamsten Paar, Su und Abhi, die zu dem Schlu\u00df kamen, da\u00df der Ball gestern h\u00e4tte gebowlt werden m\u00fcssen, um den Schl\u00e4ger rechtzeitig zu erreichen, bevor Cam wegen \u201eleg before wicket\u201c ausgegeben wurde – direkt aus dem Lehrbuch eines deutschen Bundesliga-Schiedsrichters. Jasveer (26*), Dev (23*) und Sid (18) sahen auf dem Spielfeld etwas lebendiger aus, konnten sich aber dem Unvermeidlichen nicht entziehen. Um die Sprache des Baseballs zu verwenden, ging das Spiel schlie\u00dflich mit 115 zu 99 an die Gastgeber.\"\"Etwa 240 Erdinger sp\u00e4ter kamen die Pilgrims unter der enthusiastischen F\u00fchrung ihres lokalen Kapit\u00e4ns Adrian \u201eMatador\u201c Mancuso zum Einsatz. Getreu dem preu\u00dfischen Sprichwort \u201esieg oder stirb\u201c wurden die Pilgrims aus dem Spiel genommen, sobald sie ein zweites Mal zum Angriff \u00fcbergingen. Cam (27*), Jasveer (24*), Abhi (25*) und Trived (20*) trugen mit Schl\u00e4gen dazu bei, da\u00df das Team nach einem Meilenstein von einem Century ohne Verlust ein un\u00fcberwindbares Ziel von 136 f\u00fcr 1 nach 16 Overs erreichte.\"\"Der altgediente linksh\u00e4ndige Granatwerfer J\u00f6rg er\u00f6ffnete das Bowling gegen Far From the MCC, die, nachdem sie dem anhaltenden Erdinger Eintaucheffekt ausgesetzt waren, den Wert der Zeit auf der …\u00e4h…. Bank erkannten, auf die sie zur\u00fcckgeschickt wurden. Dann warf Nabeel seine turning rippers, Su drohte mit einem Hattrick und das Spiel endete fast gleichauf mit dem FFMCC mit 75 f\u00fcr 6 aus 16 Overs. In einer sch\u00f6nen sportlichen Geste bildeten die gastgebenden Mannschaften eine Ehrengarde f\u00fcr die Pilgrims, als sie das Spielfeld verlie\u00dfen.\"\"Bevor die Pilgrims abreisen konnten, hielt unser Pr\u00e4sident Moritz \u00fcberraschend eine Rede auf englisch, eine Abwechslung zu Latein und Griechisch, an die man sich als reisender Pilgrim schon gew\u00f6hnt hat. Beide Kapit\u00e4ne unserer Gegner, Wayne Geller und Russel Turner, und der Vorsitzende von Appleton selbst, Roger Gilkes, der in der Spielpause selbstlos das Pitch fegte, erhielten als kleine Geste des Dankes unsere rosa XXL-Tour-Shirts. F\u00fcnf Gegner, die goldene „Ducks“ erzielt hatten, erhielten Exemplare von Campbell Jeffery’s vermeintlich romantischem Roman \u201eBalaclava\u201c. Der talentierte junge Louis King erhielt eine Pilgrims-M\u00fctze f\u00fcr seine engagierte Allround-Leistung mit dem Schl\u00e4ger, dem Ball und als Scorer, Schiedsrichter und Betreuer, bevor sich alle begeisterten Spieler \u00fcber das von Appleton CC vorbereitete Grillfest hermachten.\"\"Und als abschlie\u00dfendes Highlight wurden die Pilger bei Sonnenuntergang zu einem Pint eingeladen im wundersch\u00f6nen Garten des Eight Bells Pub im malerischen Dorf Eaton. Als Team m\u00f6chten wir unseren Begleitern f\u00fcr diesen Tag – dem gastgebenden Appleton CC und ihren Kollegen von Far From the MCC – ein herzliches Dankesch\u00f6n f\u00fcr den wunderbaren Tag voller Cricket-Spa\u00df in der Sonne und die bleibenden Erinnerungen aussprechen. Die Insel Helgoland in der Nordsee w\u00fcrde sich gerne f\u00fcr Eure Gastfreundschaft revanchieren. \"\"Day 3 of the Westminster\/Oxford tour was the much sought after rest day which gave the Pilgrims an opportunity to amble through the town, visit museums and watch some live cricket at the Magdalen College Ground. While the afternoon was spent brushing up on Renoir and Rembrandt the evening featured Moritz introduce his own contemporary masterpiece \u2013 the 1st<\/sup> Hop-On-Hop-Off Pub Crawl which to the best of my knowledge still waits for the last crawlers to hop off.\"\"Day 4 of the tour saw the Pilgrims, thanks to the endeavours of the Nawab and his Understudy, master the art of the local taxi heralding to get us to Appleton, a lovely little village by the side of \u2013 well, nothing. Wait, there was something, we could smell it, and it was the local sewage treatment plant working at full capacity.\"\"Coming in to this Sunday while the village of Appleton hosted its 1st<\/sup> ever international T16 tournament, the Pilgrims were finally introduced to the shorter things in life \u2013 and a threesome. Unknown territory so to speak, but it was just a contest between the hosts from Appleton, Far from the MCC and a more or less sober team from the Island. For their first game the Pilgrims were asked to field \u2013 an excellent decision by our hosts Appleton CC who knew that the Erdinger refreshments were not getting cooler anytime soon.\"\"All the Pilgrims got to bowl barring keeper Trived and shared the spoils evenly between them. Skipper Rick came back with figures of 1-0-1-1 which he is certain to tattoo somewhere inconspicuous before the next tour. In no time at all Appleton had scored 115-6 in their allotted 16 overs. Credit must also be given to the local DJ\u2019s XL German Playlist which included Nena\u2019s 99 balloons and the national anthem, albeit the wrong verse, and thereby ensured that all players remained awake between the overs.\"\"The Pilgrims opened the batting with their most entertaining pair, Su and Abhi who concluded that the ball needed to have been bowled yesterday to reach the bat in time, before Cam was out judged leg before \u2013 straight out of the text book of a German league umpire. Jasveer (26*), Dev (23*) and Sid (18) looked a little livelier on the pitch but could not evade the inevitable. Eyebrows were raised when all but one player got to bat \u2013 also a first since the inception of the club. In the world of baseball, the match was finally awarded to the hosts 115 to 99.\"\"About 240 Erdingers later the Pilgrims, under the enthusiastic leadership of their local captain Adrian \u201cMatador\u201d Mancuso, were put in to bat. True to the very Prussian proverb of \u201cperform or perish\u201d the pilgrims were retired out as soon as they shouldered arms a second time. Cam (27*), Jasveer (24*), Abhi (25*) and Trived (20*) all contributed bountifully to a milestone century without loss and to an insurmountable total of 136 for 1 after 16 overs.\"\"The veteran leftist grenade launcher J\u00f6rg opened the bowling against Far from the MCC who, having been exposed to the prolonged Erdinger immersion effect, understood the value of time on the \u2026errr\u2026. bench, where they were sent back to. Then Nabeel bowled his turning rippers, Su threatened with a hattrick and the match ended almost at par with the FFMCC on 75 for 6 of 16 overs. A beautiful gesture of sportsmanship saw the hosting teams build a guard of honour for the visiting Pilgrims as they left the playing field.\"\"Before the Pilgrims could leave our President Moritz surprisingly delivered a speech in English, a change from Latin and Greek which a touring Pilgrim is already accustomed to. Both captains of our opponents, Wayne Geller and Russel Turner, and Appleton\u2019s Chairman himself, Roger Gilkes, who selflessly swept the pitch during the innings break, were given our XXL pink tour shirts as a small gesture of gratitude. Five opponents who had scored golden ducks received copies of Campbell Jeffery’s supposedly romantic novel „Balaclava“. The talented young Louis King was presented with a Pilgrim\u2019s cap for his dedicated all-round performance with the bat, ball and as a scorer and umpire and hand-lender before all the ravished players raided the barbeque prepared by Appleton CC.\"\"And as a final highlight the Pilgrims were treated to a pint in the beautiful garden of the Eight Bells pub in the quaint village of Eaton at sunset. As a team we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our companions for the day \u2013 hosts Appleton CC and their fellows from Far from the MCC for the wonderful day of cricket fun in the sun and the lasting memories. The island of Heligoland in the North Sea would happily reciprocate your hospitality.
