Chaotische Verh\u00e4ltnisse<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bei n\u00e4herer Betrachtung sollte man den Teilnehmern des 6. ERDINGER Alkoholfrei Kontinental Cups ein Kompliment machen. Trotz chaotischer Verh\u00e4ltnisse, f\u00fcr die sie nur teilweise selbst verantwortlich waren, gelang es ihnen wieder, zahlreichen Zuschauern Cricket als kurzweilige und unterhaltsame Freizeitbesch\u00e4ftigung zu pr\u00e4sentieren. Unter drohenden Gewitterwolken und bei zeitweilig heftigem Nordwestwind stellten sie ihren Sport so vor, da\u00df kaum ein Besucher des British Flair Lifestyle Event gemerkt haben wird, was in Heligoland Pilgrims\u2018 25. Spiel alles schief gelaufen war bzw. lief.<\/p>\n

\nEs begann mit der Mannschaftsaufstellung. W\u00e4hrend \u201eGastgeber\u201c Heligoland Pilgrims es geschafft hatte, acht Vereinsmitglieder f\u00fcr Freitag nachmittag zusammenzutrommeln, bestand das Renegades Team vom Lokalmatador THCC Rot-Gelb Hamburg bis 48 Stunden vor Spielbeginn noch immer nur aus drei Cricketern. Zwar fanden sich auf den letzten Dr\u00fccker doch noch f\u00fcnf weitere Spieler, von denen jedoch kaum einer p\u00fcnktlich um 14.00 Uhr erscheinen konnte. Schlie\u00dflich war \u00fcber Nacht noch verletzungsbedingt Matthew als Kapit\u00e4n der Pilgrims ausgefallen.<\/p>\n

Im Veranstaltungsprogramm war das traditionsreiche Spiel als 5. ERDINGER Alkoholfrei Konti-nental Cup angek\u00fcndigt worden, obwohl es tats\u00e4chlich seit 2013 der 6. Cup war. Und, horribele dictu, im Programm hie\u00df es auf dem Lageplan tats\u00e4chlich \u201eCriquet\u201c, noch dazu eingezeichnet an der falschen Stelle \u2013 nur Croquet war dort richtig plaziert. Diese Fehler konnte nur noch das Hinweisschild \u00fcbertreffen, das auf den Cricketplatz zeigte: \u201eChildren\u2019s Play Arena\u201c.<\/p>\n

Rechtzeitig f\u00fcr Aufbau und Vorbereitung erschienen f\u00fcnf Pilgrims, Vorst\u00e4nde Cam und Moritz mit Andreas, Bai und Prasad, sowie Kamaladin, der Kapit\u00e4n der Renegades. Die ben\u00f6tigten B\u00e4nke, St\u00fchle und Tische lagen eine gef\u00fchlte Meile entfernt vom Platz und die beiden versprochenen Pavillons fehlten ganz. Mit viel M\u00fche gelang es Andreas, Cam und Moritz, einen der beiden klapprigen Ersatz-Pavillons aufzubauen. Cam m\u00e4hte einen Streifen auf dem Rasen; Prasad, Bai und Kamaladin luden das teure Plastik-Pitch des THCC in Michaels Auto, wurden damit aber nicht auf den Platz gelassen.<\/p>\n

Als sich ein interessierter Zuschauer um 14.25 Uhr erkundigte, wo eigentlich das f\u00fcr 14.00 Uhr angek\u00fcndigte Cricket stattf\u00e4nde, mu\u00dfte man ihn entt\u00e4uschen \u2013 mit sechs Pilgrims und vier Renegades war es noch immer nicht m\u00f6glich, ein Spiel zu beginnen. Also begannen acht Cricketer un-ter der Leitung von Cam eine kleine Trainingseinheit, die von Moritz \u00fcber Lautsprecher erl\u00e4utert wurde. Seine hilfesuchende Bitte an die Zuschauer, die Spieler zu unterst\u00fctzen, wurde erh\u00f6rt: Simon machte mit und kurze Zeit sp\u00e4ter konnte das Spiel endlich beginnen.<\/p>\n

Moritz war f\u00fcr Matthew als Kapit\u00e4n der Pilgrims eingesprungen, konnte sein Team aber nicht lei-ten, solange er das Match am Spielfeldrand kommentierte. So f\u00fchrte Cam die Helgol\u00e4nder an, und zwar als Wicket-Keeper. Kamaladin und Sulaiman er\u00f6ffneten das Batting f\u00fcr THCC Rot-Gelb. Samim und Saied standen als Schiedsrichter auf dem Feld. Notgedrungen mu\u00dfte der junge Johann das Scoring \u00fcbernehmen, was er jedoch noch nie gemacht hatte \u2013 Chaos pur.<\/p>\n

Nach und nach trudelten die \u00fcbrigen Pilgrims ein, Nabeel, der allerdings seine gr\u00fcn-rot-wei\u00dfe Helgoland-Spielkleidung verloren hatte und deshalb in THCC-wei\u00df antreten mu\u00dfte, Murali und zu-letzt in kurzen Hosen Steve, der diesmal aus Paris eingeflogen war, angeblich von einem internati-onalen Cricket-Turnier. Auch die Renegades waren irgendwann vollst\u00e4ndig \u2013 das fiel nur nicht so sehr auf, weil ja immer von ihnen nur zwei schlagen konnten. Nach ungef\u00e4hr f\u00fcnf Overs ersetzten die Bowler den roten Plastikball durch einen harten rosa Lederball, auch diese Unregelm\u00e4\u00dfigkeit fiel dem Publikum vermutlich nicht auf.<\/p>\n

Und dann schlug der Nordwestwind zu: Er s\u00e4belte den Sch\u00f6nwettter-Pavillon \u00fcber Johanns Scorer-Tisch hinweg und konnte auch von Ali und Michael nicht festgehalten werden. Dabei zer-ri\u00df nicht nur die neue bunte Wimpel-Kette der Pilgrims, die sich wohl flicken l\u00e4\u00dft. Viel schlimmer: Eine B\u00f6e ri\u00df auch den Pokal der Pilgrims aus seinem Sockel. Das gro\u00dfe 3 Liter-EDINGER-Glas zerlegte sich dabei unwiederbringlich in Scherben. Eins war jetzt klar: Wer immer das Spiel gewinnen w\u00fcrde, konnte nicht mehr damit rechnen, ein verdientes Wei\u00dfbier aus diesem Kelch trinken zu k\u00f6nnen.<\/p>\n

Nachdem das zerbrochene Glas und die \u00dcberreste des Pavillons beseitigt waren, wurde das windige Spiel fortgesetzt. Die ehrgeizigen THCC Renegades erreichten nach 21 Overs 146 Runs mit Sulaiman auf 49*, Saied 39* und Ali 13* als st\u00e4rkste Schlagm\u00e4nner. Wickets f\u00fcr die Pilgrims erzielten Prasad (bowled), Steve (sehr sch\u00f6n gefangen von Murali) und Moritz (gefangen von seinem eigenen Bowling); auch Andreas und Rekrut Simon gaben ihr Deb\u00fct als Bowler.<\/p>\n

Heligoland Pilgrims gingen die Aufholjagd mit der ihnen eigenen, ERDINGER-getriebenen Gelassenheit an und verpa\u00dften das Ziel trotz Unterst\u00fctzung durch Sandeep um 12 Runs \u2013 im 17. Over gingen ihnen die Schlagm\u00e4nner aus. Moritz kommentierte die spannende Schlu\u00dfphase zur Unter-haltung des Publikums, konnte seinem Verein aber nicht mehr helfen. Von den insgesamt 134 Runs der Pilgrims kamen 45 von Nabeel, 22 von Bai und 19 von Murali. F\u00fcr THCC waren Ali und Subair mit je 2 Wickets sowie Johann, Saied und Samim mit je 1 Wicket erfolgreich; Ali hielt auch zwei Catches und Samim einen.<\/p>\n

W\u00e4re da nicht dieses ungl\u00fcckliche Mi\u00dfverst\u00e4ndnis zwischen Nabeel und Sandeep gewesen, das zum Run-out von Sandeep f\u00fchrte, vielleicht h\u00e4tten die Pilgrims doch noch gewonnen. Doch Steve meinte, den Zuschauern noch etwas bieten zu m\u00fcssen, begab sich einfach wieder an den Schlag und spielt die letzten vier Overs zu Ende, obwohl die Pilgrims l\u00e4ngst verloren hatten. Da\u00df am Ende ein heftiger Schauer s\u00e4mtliche Grenz-F\u00e4hnchen der Pilgrims ruinierte, 5 Flaschen ERDINGER fehlten und niemand ein Mannschaftsphoto gemacht hatte, rundete die chaotischen Verh\u00e4ltnisse irgendwie passend ab. Die Besucher der Veranstaltung spendeten trotzdem Applaus \u2013 Kompliment an die Cricketer!<\/p>\n

On closer inspection one should pay a compliment to the participants of the 6th ERDINGER Alco-hol-free Kontinental Cup. Despite chaotic conditions, for which they were only partly responsible, they again succeeded in introducing cricket to numerous spectators as an entertaining and enjoyable leisure activity. Under threatening thunderclouds and with occasionally strong northwest winds, they presented their sport in such a way that hardly any visitor to the British Flair Lifestyle Event will have noticed what had gone or went wrong in Heligoland Pilgrims\u2019 25th match.<\/p>\n

\nIt started with the line-up. While „host“ Heligoland Pilgrims had managed to gather eight club members for Friday afternoon, the Renegades team of the local club THCC Rot-Gelb Hamburg still consisted of only three cricketers until 48 hours before the start of the match. Although five other players could be found at the last minute, hardly anyone was able to arrive on time at 2 pm. Finally Matthew had to withdraw overnight as captain of the Pilgrims due to an injury.<\/p>\n

In the event programme the traditional game was announced as the 5th ERDINGER Alkoholfrei Kontinental Cup, although it was actually the 6th cup since 2013. And, horribele dictu, in the programme one could read „Criquet“ on the site plan, indicated in the wrong place – only Croquet was placed correctly. These mistakes could only be exceeded by the sign pointing to the cricket ground: „Children’s Play Arena“.<\/p>\n

Five pilgrims, board members Cam and Moritz with Andreas, Bai and Prasad, and Kamaladin, captain of the Renegades, arrived in time for preparation and set-up. The benches, chairs and tables were located about a mile away from the field and the two promised pavilions were completely missing. With considerable effort Andreas, Cam and Moritz managed to erect one of the two rickety spare pavilions. Cam mowed a strip of grass; Prasad, Bai and Kamaladin loaded THCC\u2019s expensive plastic pitch into Michael’s car, but were not allowed on the field.<\/p>\n

When an interested spectator asked at 2.25 pm where the cricket announced for 2 pm would take place, he had to be disappointed – with six Pilgrims and four Renegades it was still not possible to start a game. So eight cricketers started a small training session under the supervision of Cam, which was explained by Moritz via loudspeaker. Seeking help he successfully requested the spectators to support the players: Simon joined in and a short time later the game could finally begin.<\/p>\n

Moritz stood in for Matthew as captain of the Pilgrims, but could not lead his team as long as he commented on the match on the side-line. So Cam led the Heligolanders, namely as Wicket-Keeper. Kamaladin and Sulaiman opened the batting for THCC Rot-Gelb. Samim and Saied were umpiring on the field. Perforce the young Johann had to take over the scoring, which he had never done before – pure chaos.<\/p>\n

Little by little the other Pilgrims arrived, Nabeel, who had lost his green-red-white Heligoland clothes and therefore had to compete in THCC-whites, Murali and last in shorts Steve, who had flown in from Paris this time, allegedly from an international cricket tournament. The Renegades were complete at some point, too – this was only not so noticeable, because only two of them could bat at any one time. After about five overs, the bowlers replaced the red plastic ball with a hard pink leather ball; the audience probably did not notice this irregularity either.<\/p>\n

And then the northwest wind struck: It sabered the fair weather pavilion away over Johann’s scor-er table and could not be held down by Ali and Michael either. This did not only tear the new colourful pennant chain of the Pilgrims, which can probably be patched. Much worse: A gust also ripped the Pilgrims\u2019 Cup out of its pedestal. The large 3-litre EDINGER vessel was irretrievably broken into pieces. One thing was now clear: whoever would win the match could no longer expect to be able to drink a deserved wheat beer from this chalice.<\/p>\n

After the shards and the remains of the pavilion had been removed, the windy game continued. The ambitious THCC Renegades reached 146 runs after 21 overs with Sulaiman on 49*, Saied 39* and Ali 13* as the strongest batsmen. Wickets for the Pilgrims were gathered by Prasad (bowled), Steve (very nicely caught by Murali) and Moritz (caught off his own bowling); Andreas and recruit Simon also made their debut as bowlers.<\/p>\n

Heligoland Pilgrims started the chase with their own, ERDINGER-driven composure and missed the target by 12 runs despite support by Sandeep – in the 17th over they ran out of batsmen. Moritz commented on the exciting final phase to entertain the audience, but could no longer help his club. Of the Pilgrims\u2019 altogether 134 runs 45 came from Nabeel, 22 from Bai and 19 from Murali. For THCC Ali and Subair were successful with 2 wickets each as well as Johann, Saied and Samim with 1 wicket each; Ali also held two wickets and Samim one.<\/p>\n

Had it not been for an unfortunate misunderstanding between Nabeel and Sandeep that led to Sandeep run-out, the Pilgrims might still have won. But Steve thought he still had to offer the spectators something, just returned to the crease and batted out the last four overs, although the Pilgrims had already lost. That in the end a heavy shower ruined all the Pilgrims\u2019 boundary flags, 5 bottles of ERDINGER were missing and nobody had taken a team photo somehow fittingly rounded off the chaotic conditions. The visitors of the event still applauded – compliments to the cricketers!<\/p>\n
