Die lächelnden Attentäter

Satya Sahoo, ein sehr bekanntes Mitglied der Pilgrims, das sogar Ehrenmitglied ist, hat eines der freundlichsten Lächeln im deutschen Cricket. Er bringt Spaß und Freude in jedes Cricket-Spiel, und dazu gehört auch, daß er jedes Jahr einen riesigen Aufwand betreibt, damit der Bavaria Cup reibungslos abläuft. Ja, die Pilgrims hatten sich erneut in den Süden gewagt, wenn auch in etwas reduzierter Besetzung. Aufgrund von Verletzungen und Absagen reisten sieben Spieler aus Hamburg an, zu denen sich Satya und Ankit in Erding gesellten und Zeeshan vom BC Attaching am Spieltag hinzukam. Und gegen diesen hervorragenden Club traten die Pilgrims um den 5. Erdinger Alkoholfrei Bavaria Cup an.

Die Vorbereitungen verliefen eher düster. Es regnete den ganzen Freitag und es war so kalt, daß die Pilgrims gezwungen waren, innen im TAJ-Restaurant zu sitzen, um das traditionelle Curry vor dem Spiel zu essen. Aber der Abend war klar und der Sonnabend brach mit einem wunderschönen bayerischen weiß-blauen Himmel an. Vor dem Spiel wurde Cam vorzeitig seine Anstecknadel für 10-jährige Mitgliedschaft überreicht, als Anerkennung dafür, daß er 50 Spiele absolviert hatte – nach Moritz der zweite Pilgrim, dem das gelang. Chris, zum ersten Mal als Kapitän, gewann das Los und entschied sich für das Bowling. Bipin und Su eröffneten das Spiel und holten jeweils einen Wicket. Dieser starke Start wurde durch ein herausragendes Runout von Chris im freien Fall unterstützt, der dann ebenfalls zwei Wickets nahm.

Es sah so aus, als würden die Pilgrims dominieren, aber die jungen Sam und Bhavin stabilisierten das Innings, wobei Sam schließlich hervorragende 50 Punkte erzielte. Er wurde von Ersatzspieler Deep gut gefangen, aber der Rest der BC Attaching Spieler lieferte einige kraftvolle Schläge, und die Punktzahl stieg weiter an. Dann betrat der lächelnde Attentäter Satya die Bühne. Innerhalb von drei Bällen beendete er das Innings und erzielte den ersten Hattrick der Pilgrims überhaupt, und das auf fast entschuldigende Weise. Aber seien wir ehrlich: Diese Auszeichnung hätte keinem netteren Kerl passieren können. Satya, alle Pilgrims freuen sich unglaublich für Dich.

Mit 162 Punkten auf dem Spielstand und reichlich Erdinger Erfrischungen, die während der Innings-Pause getrunken wurden, gingen Zeeshan und Cam an den Start, um die Verfolgung aufzunehmen. Sie erzielten 61 Punkte, wobei der unverwüstliche Zeeshan neun Leben am Schlag hatte und einige schöne Schläge landete. Er schied mit 30 Punkten aus, ebenso wie Cam kurz darauf. Dann übernahm ein weiterer der lächelnden Attentäter der Pilgrims, Nabeel, die Kontrolle. Er stabilisierte das Innings und brachte die Pilgrims zusammen mit Su, Bipin und Satya kurz vor das Ziel, sodaß Moritz den Siegpunkt erzielen konnte. Nabeel beendete das Spiel mit 30* und hinterließ damit einen großartigen Eindruck.

Als die Punktzahl erreicht war, strahlten die Pilgrims rundum, und Chris hob das Erdinger-Glas in freudigem Triumph. Der Mann des Spiels, Sam, erhielt ein Exemplar von „True Blue Tucker” (geschrieben von Cam) und krönte damit einen für alle Beteiligten großartigen Tag. BC Attaching, Nachfolger der Bavarian All Stars, erwies sich als würdiger Gegner und eine Gruppe feiner Gentlemen.

Anschließend ging es zum Erdinger-Zelt auf dem Volksfest, wo weiter gelacht und gefeiert wurde. Und damit sollte dieser Bericht auch enden.

The Smiling Assassins

Satya Sahoo, a Pilgrims member of great renown, so great he has honorary membership, has one of the friendliest smiles in German cricket. He brings a spirit of fun and enjoyment to every cricket outing, and this includes doing a tower of work to make the Bavaria Cup run so smoothly each year. Yes, the Pilgrims had again ventured south, in a somewhat depleted number. A combination of injuries and cancellations meant a magnificent seven travelled from Hamburg, joined by Satya and Ankit in Erding, then bolstered on the day by Zeeshan from BC Attaching. And it was against this fine club that the Pilgrims contested for the 5th Erdinger Alkoholfrei Bavaria Cup.

The lead up looked dismal. It rained all Friday, and it was cold enough to force the Pilgrims to sit inside at the TAJ restaurant for the traditional pre-match curry. But the evening was clear, and Saturday dawned with a sky of wonderful Bavarian white and blue. Before the match, Cam was presented with his 10-year membership pin out of turn in recognition of having notched up 50 games, the second Pilgrim to do so after Moritz. Chris, captaining for the first time, won the toss and chose to bowl. Bipin and Su started proceedings, grabbing a wicket each. This tight start was aided by an outstanding diving runout by Chris, who then also chimed in with two wickets.

It looked like the Pilgrims were rolling, but young Sam and Bhavin steadied the innings, with Sam going on to make a fine 50. He was well-caught by sub-fielder Deep, but the BC Attaching tail put in some lusty hitting, and the score continued to tick over. Enter the smiling assassin, Satya. In the space of three balls, he brought the innings just about to an end, taking the first ever Pilgrims hattrick, and he did it in almost apologetic fashion. But let’s face it; this accolade could not have happened to a nicer guy. Satya, all of the Pilgrims are incredibly happy for you.

With 162 on the board, and plenty of Erdinger refreshments downed during the innings break, Zeeshan and Cam went out to start the chase. They put on 61, with the cat-with-nine-lives Zeeshan chancing his bat and hitting some fine shots. He fell for 30, as did Cam shortly after. It was then that another of the Pilgrims smiling assassins, Nabeel, took control of things. He steadied the innings and combined with Su, Bipin and Satya to bring the Pilgrims within striking distance, enabling Moritz to hit the winning run. Nabeel finished not out on 30*, and it was a marvellous knock.

The score reached, the Pilgrims were beaming all round, and Chris lifted the Erdinger glass in happy triumph. Man-on-the-match Sam was presented with a copy of True Blue Tucker (written by Cam), capping an outstanding day enjoyed by all. BC Attaching, in succession of the Bavarian All Stars, proved worthy opponents and a fine group of gentlemen.

Then it was off to the Erdinger tent at the Volksfest for more smiling and merriment. And it’s best to end this report right there.
